SAiNTORINI

So whilst I've managed to catch my breath from a hectic week of deadlines and ever-changing print schedules, it's time to show off the last of my Greek island adventures, as it's well overdue. With many friends still circulating around Europe, and in particular the Greek islands, what better way to show some of them the heavenly go-to places that I found along the way.

For those wanting to do some serious boutique shopping in Greece - ladies, I suggest leaving the men back at the pool bar as there aren't as many in-store stools as there are in Australia. I wasn't all that interested in shopping the usual big name brands, as there's plenty of time for that back at home. It is the local Santorini boutiques and stalls that are stocking the summer trends, yet to hit Australia. One shop in particular is SPICY! There are 2 stores located within the main shopping district of Santorini Square, and although I'm usually the first to criticise the point of having any 2 stores within the same precinct, because of its versatile stock I'm willing to make an exception. From jewellery to strappy european sandals, black maxi dresses (below) to silk scarves; the added bonus is, like the stores tagline, you are to 'Be Chic... Wear Greek'. It was a nice feeling being able to support local brands and to give back to a country, whose citizens would so willingly go out of their way to cater to its visitors even in its toughest time.

However for those with a thirst for knowledge and find archeology right up your alley, then I strongly suggest visiting the Minoan Bronze Age settlement, Akrotiri. Where in 1500BC the Minoan people were forced to flee Santorini's volcanic island when the ground began to shake and walls collapse. The site was enriching to say the least, the experience put you in the shoes of, say a 21 year old woman, wondering how much time there was to escape.

Obviously the significant and well known sights of Santorini leave you nothing short of disappointed. With a sunset you could 'repeat on demand' and cocktails and canapes close at hand - it's no wonder it's ranked in the top 10 romantic destinations worldwide.

Enjoy the view,

P x
